As Pediatrician-in-Chief and Chairman, it is a great pleasure for me to welcome you to the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital's Phyllis and David Komansky Center for Children's Health and the Department of Pediatrics at Weill Cornell Medical College.
Our Department continues to make great progress. We have opened new programs in the Department including a Pediatric Sleep and Breathing Disorders Center, a brain concussion clinic, and programs specializing in Pediatric Irritable Bowel Disease and Pediatric Motility. This year, we have started the planning process that will result in the expansion of our inpatient service.
Our Department's mission is to provide our residents with an outstanding educational experience that combines a broad based comprehensive general pediatrics experience coupled with in-depth exposure to tertiary and quaternary sub-specialty pediatrics. In addition, the Department has incorporated a state-of-the-art Pediatric Simulation Program and Center into the fabric of the resident education. We have outstanding faculty who are committed to your education. We have added new strengths in Clinical Genetics and Simulation Education. During your time with us, you will have considerable contact with this quality faculty.
We have enhanced our research training experience, which provides our residents a wonderful complement to their clinical training. Residents are assigned a full-time, accomplished faculty member to assist them in preparing and executing the required research project. Many of our residents have presented their work at national academic society meetings.
Over the past decade, our residents have gone on to highly successful careers in both private practice and academic medicine. We are extremely proud of their accomplishments and contributions to Pediatrics.
Our location in the Upper East Side of Manhattan is an additional bonus. This is a great place to live and work. As you know, New York City offers numerous welcome distractions from the demands of residency training.
I look forward to meeting you during your visit to our program.
