More about the Nursing Clinical Excellence Awards...
Two of this year's six recipients of the 21st Annual Nursing Clinical Excellence Awards include members of the Pediatrics nursing team. Recipient Courtney Dougherty, RN is a Senior Staff Nurse, Perioperative Services in the Pediatric Sedation Unit. Certified in Chemotherapy, IV Therapy and Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Ms. Dougherty is praised by colleagues for her "outstanding clinical skills and extraordinary gift for connecting with the children and relating in a calm positive manner that inspires confidence and trust." She is also a dynamic educator. Ms. Dougherty contributed to a patient satisfaction survey and is currently revising patient discharge instructions to make them easier to understand.
Recipient Pamela Ross, RN is a Staff Nurse in the Division of Women and Children's Health Nursing who provides care for young patients undergoing chemotherapy. Whether bringing one patient's entire fifth-grade class to the hospital for a surprise graduation celebration or sitting with family members during a young patient's long night, Ms. Ross is proactive in her efforts to ease the concerns and challenges faced by the children and their families. Her "characteristic poise, focus and positive clinical strength" is valued by both patients and colleagues.
