Schwartz Center Rounds are a multidisciplinary forum for staff to discuss issues that arise for them as caregivers in caring for patients. The rounds are held in 129 hospitals around the nation.
Ralph Nachman, MD serves as the physician leader for the
Schwartz Center Rounds at Weill Cornell, which were introduced here in February 2008.
The format of this venue is for brief case presentations (15 minutes) of a case to illustrate a specific topic which would benefit from subsequent audience discussion. These are not medical case conferences/reviews.
Case presentation is meant to be a "jumping off" point to elicit staff discussion on what their experience has been on a particular issue. The discussion is guided by our facilitators, Penny Dollard, MSW, CSW and Ralph Nachman, MD.
In April, the Rounds address "Alternative Medicine for a Critically Ill Child," a pediatric case that was initially suggested to us by Patient Services. The case is a 15 year old patient in which the family made requests for alternative medicines at the terminal phase of his illness.
