Child Development

Visit our Child Development web page

Our child development program provides two important functions to children and the community. First, our child development physicians provide screening exams to those infants and children at risk for developmental delay. The second major clinical care component is the evaluation of children who clearly demonstrate an abnormality in development (e.g. children with learning problems or who evidence delays in motor, language or social function including autism). The evaluation leads to a diagnosis and treatment plan.

The program provides evaluations, treatment, and referrals for the full range of developmental difficulties, including:

  • Delays in motor and language development
  • Hyperactivity-attention deficit disorder
  • Autistic disorders
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Failure-to-thrive
  • Temper tantrums
  • Behavioral disorders

The program also provides multi-disciplinary evaluations through the New York State Early Intervention Program

What happens during the early years of your child's life is very important to his or her later health and well-being. It is best to identify problems in babies and children at the earliest possible age, so that they can get the best care. Because of the importance of this early care, the State of New York passed a law stating that infants and toddlers with developmental disabilities are entitled to Early Intervention Services. We are an approved evaluation center for the New York State Early Intervention Program.
