Research

Current research efforts in the Division of Pediatric Pulmonology are led by Dr. Stefan Worgall, MD, PhD. His areas of focus include:
  • Development of gene-based vaccines against pulmonary pathogens. Specifically, the laboratory group is investigating the use of capsid-modified adenovirus vectors to enhance immune responses as genetic vaccines against Pseudomonas aeruginosa and RSV.
  • Elucidation of the mechanisms of interaction of alveolar macrophages with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The laboratory group's goal is to further the understanding of the role of alveolar macrophages in the pathogenesis of cystic fibrosis.
As author or co-author of more than 40 research articles, Dr. Worgall has published his scientific work in journals such as Journal of Clinical Investigation, Blood, Nature Medicine and Journal of Virology.
